A Special is a non-licensed medicine prescribed by Doctors to meet the individual needs of the patient. Specials are manufactured or procured for the patient for many reasons including:

  • A different delivery vehicle or dosage form is required
  • A customised strength is required
  • A Preservative or Additive free formulation
  • A Licensed product doesn’t exist
  • A Licensed product is no longer available on the market

What is a Special Obtain?

A Special Obtain is an item that is difficult to source and generally not available from the mainline wholesalers. In these circumstances we can source and procure these Special Obtain items on your behalf saving you valuable time and effort.

Special Obtain items cover a wide range of products from specialist food products and ingredients, to hosiery and compression products, to cover creams and dermatological products and so on.

With access to a vast range of suppliers we can source your Special Obtain items for you and we aim to deliver within three to four working days for non-stock items. For repeat orders we will work with you to ensure you have a source of supply you can always rely on.

If no, and the product is not listed in part VIIIB of the Drug Tariff then endorse with the following information:

  • Net invoice price
  • Pack size
  • Manufacturers MHRA licence number
  • Product batch number
  • SP (to claim the £20 sourcing fee)

 

For Imported Medicines and Special Obtains endorse with the following information:

Imported Medicines:

  • Net invoice price
  • Pack size
  • Importers MHRA licence number
  • Product batch number
  • SP (to claim the £20 sourcing fee)
